A Personal Thank You from the Animal Care Network

The Michigan Animal Adoption Network would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that has donated, sponsored, supported and made possible the rescue efforts that we achieved to help the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina. The outpour of support that you have shown has been overwhelming and heartwarming to say the least. Everything from the veterinary care, financial donations, gas cards, supplies, vehicles and foster homes has helped every step of the way.

Knowing that the animals in the Gulf Coast were in need of help, MAAN partnered with dozens of shelters, rescue groups, veterinary clinics, businesses and individuals to do our part. These trips have been an extremely emotional yet rewarding experience to all that have been involved.

Nothing could prepare us for the heartbreak and devastation that we witnessed, not just for the animals, but for the people we met and embraced along the way.

To date, as a group effort, we have made four trips resulting in the rescue of 223 cats and dogs and delivered 15 truckloads of supplies to much needed areas. We also volunteered our time at temporary shelters cleaning cages and exercising animals from 5:30 am until 2:00 am with little or no sleep. Many of our volunteers also spent time rescuing animals and searching for lost pets of people that had contacted us.

Dozens of these animals have to be treated for medical issues, which has become quite costly. After all these cats and dogs have experienced and all the miles they have traveled, these animals still have their spirit, and that is what matters the most!

MAAN and the dozens of other rescue groups involved are committed to the many of dogs and cats that have been rescued and are still waiting to be adopted.

Your support will allow us to continue these efforts as long as we are needed.

Sincerely,

Michigan Animal Adoption Network
Animal Care Network Division

A Personal Thank You to the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services

The Michigan Animal Adoption Network would like to send its deepest gratitude to the entire team at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services (OVRS).

Without the willingness and expertise of this amazing group of individuals, our efforts in rescuing animals displaced by Hurricane Katrina would not have been possible.

OVRS is a state-of-the-art facility with an impressive group of specialist in all areas of veterinary medicine. They are also a 24-hour emergency service.

While the hospital itself is large, exceptionally clean and quite elegant, the staff is as kind, friendly and down-to-earth as they come.

Upon returning to Michigan with our four groups of hurricane animals, the hospital examined, vaccinated and blood tested each and every one. They also performed surgery and did X-rays and any other type of necessary testing.

The staff members performing these procedures did so as volunteers. They donated their time and talents to the animals, the cause and our organization. They were never anything but gentle and loving with every animal treated.

Again, there are not words adequate to describe the tremendous amount of thanks we all extend to this truly special group of individuals.

Thank you OVRS from the Michigan Animal Adoption Network and all the four-legged critters you so compassionately and generously helped.

Sincerely,

Michigan Animal Adoption Network
